Brief Work Experience

Professional Summary

Dr. Bhagya H. P. has contributed extensively to research on cashew and oil palm, with a focus on genetic improvement, nursery technologies, carbon sequestration and sustainable crop production. Her work has supported the development of improved cashew varieties, value-added products and elite genetic stocks, while advancing climate-resilient cultivation practices.

She has standardized several nursery techniques in cashew, including interstock grafting, soilless media, biobag cultivation, rootstock standardization and varietal response to graft success. Her research also includes carbon sequestration studies in coconut, oil palm and cashew, along with consultancy projects on strengthening the cashew value chain and collaborative research under the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Cashew.

Her contributions to oil palm research include germplasm collection, conservation, evaluation and molecular characterization, leading to the registration of 11 elite genetic stocks and the identification of polymorphic markers and QTLs associated with yield traits. She has also been granted seven copyrights for oil palm technologies and developed digital tools, including germplasm database software and the Kannada-based "Oil Palm Crop Doctor" application.

Associated with the development of the cashew varieties Nethra Jumbo-2 and Nethra Samruddhi. Contributed to the development of value-added products from cashew apple, participated in the registration of several cashew genetic stocks with special traits, and earned multiple copyrights for cashew technologies.

Beyond research, she has actively organized webinars, delivered training programmes, farmer lectures and technical advisory services, while contributing to technology dissemination, extension activities and genetic improvement programmes for both cashew and oil palm.
