Foundation Day Celebration at the Directorate of Cashew Research

ICAR-Directorate of Cashew Research, Mottetthadka, Puttur, Karnataka, celebrated its 41st Foundation Day in a meaningful way.

Dr Dinakar Adiga, Director of the institution, gave a brief overview of the path the institution has taken, the contributions it has made in the last year, and the path it needs to take forward. He introduced details of the new variety “Nethra Samriddhi,” released this year, and other technological advances in cashew over the last year.

Dr. K. B. Hebbar, Director, C.P.C.R.I., Kasaragod and Smt. Mamatha Gatti, Chairman, Karnataka Cashew Development Corporation, Mangalore, were present as the special guests at the program.

Dr. A. B., President, Institute of Agricultural Technologists, Bangalore, was the chief guests at the event. Patil participated and gave a special lecture on eco-friendly nutrient management. He said that the basic healthy soil for all crops should be maintained through organic use. Cashew growers today have ample opportunity to grow through the value-added food industry, and they should become agri-entrepreneurs using the government’s subsidy for the program.

On this occasion, talented scientists who have published excellent research papers were honoured. Many publications of the organisation, a video depicting the activities, and an AI-based chatbot “Cashew Connect” that provides information to cashew growers were released.

Farmers and entrepreneurs had meaningful discussions with resource persons. Farmers were informed about the facilities available to them from the departments and the officers they can contact. Mr. Radhakrishna of “Nitya” Food Industry Company shared the cooperation and guidance he received from the government and the ICAR- Directorate of Cashew Research, Puttur. He said that there is a good opportunity for the youth to utilise the subsidy available under the Prime Minister’s Special Scheme for the Food Industry. Shri Prasad Shetty from Sulya requested that the cashew crop should also be included under the crop insurance scheme.

Dr. Thondaiman extended the welcome while Dr. Ashwathi Chandrakumar proposed the vote of thanks.
