Awareness Programme on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace and Permanent Adalat Held at ICAR-DCR, Puttur

An Awareness Programme on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace and Permanent Adalat was organized by the ICAR–Directorate of Cashew Research (ICAR-DCR), Puttur, on 1 September 2026 at the Main Conference Hall of ICAR-DCR, Puttur. The programme aimed to create awareness among employees about the provisions of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) and to promote a safe, respectful and dignified working environment. The programme also provided an opportunity to familiarize the participants with the concept and role of the Permanent Adalat in facilitating access to legal remedies.

The programme commenced with Vande Mataram, followed by the ICAR Geeth. Dr. Jyoti Nishad, Scientist (Food Technology) and Member, Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), ICAR-DCR, Puttur, welcomed the Chief Guest, Guests of Honour and participants. Dr. Veena G. L., Senior Scientist (Horticulture) and Presiding Officer, ICC, ICAR-DCR, Puttur, introduced the programme and highlighted the importance of creating awareness about workplace rights, responsibilities and institutional mechanisms available for addressing issues related to sexual harassment. The Chief Guest, Smt. R. Ramya, Hon’ble II Additional Civil Judge and JMFC, Puttur, addressed the gathering and provided an overview of the provisions of the POSH Act. She emphasized the importance of preventive measures, awareness, appropriate workplace conducts and the role of institutional mechanisms in ensuring a safe and harassment-free working environment.

Shri Hariharan, Hon’ble I Additional Civil Judge and JMFC, Puttur, Guest of Honour, addressed the participants and highlighted the importance of legal awareness and timely redressal of grievances. Shri Santhosh Kumar M., President, Bar Association, Puttur, also addressed the gathering and emphasized the significance of creating awareness about legal rights and responsibilities among employees.

A technical session on “Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace and Permanent Adalat” was delivered by Smt. Chandravathi T., Panel Advocate, Taluk Legal Services Committee, Puttur. She explained the relevant legal provisions, preventive measures, grievance-redressal mechanisms and the role of legal services in ensuring access to justice. The session also sensitized the participants to the importance of maintaining dignity, mutual respect and professional conduct in the workplace.
